Valparaíso Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is located on Calle Condell Street 1546, it was founded in 1878 by Eduardo de la Barra, and since 1929 has been part of the Directorate of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DIBAM). The building in which it is located was declared a national monument in 1979.
The museum possesses about 110,000 historical artifacts, organized into four collection types:
-Natural Sciences including shellfish, fish, insects, mammals and fossils.
-Archaeology, which displays objects from the diaguita, Moche, Chimu, Rapa Nui, Samoa, and Yamana Selknam cultures.
-Historical Heritage, the conservation of works of photographs.
-A library specializing in the natural sciences and archeology. It is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 - 13:00, 14:00 - 18:00 hrs. Sundays and holidays: 10:00 - 14:00 hrs.
