Region del Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins,Central Valley
It is the capital city of the province of Colchagua and currently has a population of 63,800 inhabitants (51,200 in urban areas and 12,600 in rural areas). It was founded in 1742 under the name of "Villa de San Fernando de Tinguiririca" in honor of Prince Ferdinand of Asturias. Today, like most cities in the Central and Southern Chile, is a city that survives because of its agricultural services. Being the largest city in the Valley, San Fernando has a full and active trade, and good services. Inside and in San Fernando´s surroundings you can be a witness of the classic and rural architecture as well as some beautiful and antique churches and monuments. The city also has a small but interesting museum in the historical location named the “House of Lircunlauta” original house of the great estate that belonged to Don Juan Jiménez de León, who donated 450 acres of land to found the city. San Fernando is the starting point to visit all the Andes and foothills of the valley and the closest point to some interesting and attractive vineyards.
