Puerto Río Tranquilo
Región de AysénGeneral Carlos Ibáñez del Campo
The largest settlement between Coyhaique and Cochrane, the humble Puerto Río Tranquilo surrounds the western shore of General Carrera Lake. For most travelers it is an opportunity to go to bathe, however besides the river for kayaking, glaciers, the cold marble caverns, the whole settlement seems like it has only small amount of infrastructure. A road that runs from east to west is being built from here to Explorers bay, which will eventually reach San Rafael Lagoon. Wonderful, but rustic, part of it is still accessible for cars and bikes. The boat tours visit the Marble Chapel with an intriguing geological formation, when the water is calm in the General Carrera Lake. A great variety of activities are offered in the area, including horseback riding, trips to the Marble Chapel, as well as fishing. Places for to stay are usually individual cabins with a lake view. Quality services, which include Jacuzzi or sauna, plus great food.
