Puerto Natales Geography

Puerto Natales is located along the coast of the Última Esperanza Sound. In the northern part, the view goes to Cerro Benitez; the highest part is in the formation of Cerro Benitez with the Manuel Señoret mountain range.
The city of Puerto Natales is part of the biggest municipality of Natales, one of the 11 municipalities of the Magellan Region. The Última Esperanza province (56,554 square kilometers) is divided in only two municipalities. The result is a fairly large area, but with a low population density in the Natales municipality. The municipality has an area of 48,974.2 km2 (18,909 square miles) which makes it one of the largest municipalities in Chile, larger than seven of the country’s regions.
