MAIPO VALLEY
Odfjell Vineyards
Región MetropolitanaCentral Chile
A newcomer to the Maipo Island scene, this winery is the brainchild of Norwegian shipping magnate Dan Odfjell and his son, an architect who designed the sleek and minimalist cellar with an extremely narrow roof, which gives the feeling of being in the hull of a boat. Although "boutique" by Chilean standards, Odfjell is a small operation, producing 50,000 cases per year in different price ranges and lines. The wines generally have score highly on the Wine Spectator magazine scale, but it is the jungle setting, design, rarity of the cellar, and the Norwegian ponies of Mrs. Odfjell make this vineyard a place worth visiting. There is a large terrace with a view of the vineyard and the Andes.
