La Campana Astronomical Observatory

It is located 157 km north of La Serena and 94 km from Higuera. You can get there on the northbound Carretera Panamericana. After 125 km, you arrive at a junction. From the turning, it is 32 km to the observatory.
It is a modern observatory located under the clearest skies in the world, standing at 2,510 meters above sea level.
La Campana has great capacity for observing the universe and taking very clear photographs. It has four telescopes, the main telescope being 2.5 m in diameter.
The operation and research of the observatory belongs to American observatories, with the participation of the Universidad de Chile.
Visits, which are only permitted on Saturdays, are restricted, and it is essential to book a place in advance by phoning (2) 2285-006 in Santiago. The visitor must have their own transport.
