The hotel has been built in the style of a traditional adobe settlement. All elements were carefully designed to integrate with the indigenous building patterns of, but with state of the art facilities. Alto Atacama has a complete Spa, Yoga fields, hot springs, wooden decks with 6 swimming pools, international bar and a cozy common room with a big fireplace. Simplicity becomes beauty with ease in Alto Atacama, the principal forces are always nature and space, the hotel being a place to gather, recharge and share experiences.
Rooms
The 32 rooms are spacious, decorated with local crafts and all of the rooms have a private terrace were to enjoy the landscape of the valley, take a nap, read a book or relax at the sight of the gardens. The decoration is simple yet elegant, with local crafts as part of the decoration and also as a part of the spirit of the rooms. There has been a thoughtful attention to detail, and details abound, from the local iconography that covers the walls, to the antique hand crafted doors that became tables, speaking of spiral time, renewal and of beauty hidden in simplicity.
The hotel has three room types:- Quitor: These guestrooms are the closest to the Club House. The view from the private terraces of these guestrooms is on to the garden area of the hotel, with the Cordillera de la Sal in the background. Room 37 m² (399 ft²) + Terrace 14 m² (151 ft²)

Eating
The hotel has a variety of intimate indoor and outdoor settings, providing the opportunity to be in the company of interesting people from around the world while tasting Rodrigo’s fine dishes and recipes and sipping from the selection of Chilean wines. The Mediterranean-style with local ingredients and recipes food is delicious, nutritious and beautifully displayed. The breakfast coffee is quite good. There are also snacks available all the time and at the bar the Pisco Sour is a head turner.
The hotel works closely with local producers who provide fresh organic products. Other fresh items, such as meat and seafood are all brought from prime suppliers.
Grounds
The living room has a great fireplace to provide warmth. The outdoor lounge areas have small fire pits that are lighted every night. The Main Grounds are a projection of the attention to detail that prevails in Alto Atacama, where you can enjoy a nice walk at sunset or sunrise among the gardens filled with native plants and locally crafted art.
Spa
Water from glacial snow is what makes San Pedro de Atacama an Oasis. Water, expert hands and aromatic scents are the tools for invigorating the body and spirit after a day of exploring the desert. The spa invites you to relax, enjoy, and to recharge your body and mind in a peace- filled spa where the natural elements of the land work their own magic. Spa options include Finnish Sauna, Turkish bath, Scottish showers, indoor & outdoor hot tubs, among others.
Pools
The six outdoor pools overlook the beautiful Catarpe Valley and its red mountains. Stones from the surrounding desert form a wall of privacy for each of the pools. An outdoor bar and dining room in our pool area gives our guest the choice of enjoying a leisurely lunch by the water, or simply a chilled glass of Chilean white wine as the sun warms your body.
Excursions
The excursions are numerous, with a great choice for all strengths and ages. The vans are for 8 passengers. The hotel offers different kind of tours:
- Van trips: 4 half day excursions and 7 full day excursion
- Trekking: 9 half day and 3 full day
- Mountain bike: 6 half day
