In this region you will find some of the best balnearios (seaside resorts) in Chile with warm waters, white sand and excellent temperatures. Some of the beach highlights are: playa de flamenco, Rodillo, Las Machas, Los Patos, Obispito, Blanca, Orbicular, Portofino, Brava, Ramada, Caleuche and Bahía Inglesa. The latter is the ideal place to enjoy sports and outdoor activities. It is possible to practice ecotourism in the entire region such as water sports, sandboarding and hiking. It is worth visiting the Pan de Azúcar National Park, Humboldt natural penguin reserve; the park has several tourist information points and camping areas. The region also has an important cultural heritage because it was there that the first railway in South America was laid down, and the locomotive is still preserved, also in Chañaral there are various national monuments.
